Weather & Seasonal Prep
Care Guide
Your swing is built for outdoor living, but a little seasonal awareness goes a long way. These tips help protect your swing through heat, rain, cold, and everything in between.
Big picture: Most issues come from trapped moisture or neglected hardware — not from everyday weather exposure.
Before Heavy Rain or Storms
- Remove or stand cushions on edge so they can drain and dry.
- Check that water can flow freely off the swing (not pooling).
- If using a cover, only cover once surfaces are clean and dry.
- After storms, rinse off debris and inspect hanging points.
Hot Weather & Strong Sun
- Expect surfaces (especially darker poly or fabric) to feel warmer in direct sun.
- Clean pollen and dust more frequently during peak seasons.
- Inspect finishes on wood swings more often if exposed to full sun.
- Ensure good airflow around cushions to prevent heat buildup.
Cold Weather & Freezing Temperatures
- Clean and fully dry your swing before prolonged cold spells.
- Remove cushions or store them in a dry, ventilated space.
- Check hardware before and after winter for loosening.
- Avoid sealing moisture under covers during freeze–thaw cycles.
Seasonal Checklist (Spring & Fall)
Spring Reset
- Wash swing surfaces and cushions.
- Inspect hardware and tighten if needed.
- Re-level chains or ropes.
- Touch up finishes if applicable.
Fall Prep
- Deep clean before storing or covering.
- Remove cushions during extended wet periods.
- Inspect hang points before winter.
- Plan storage for cushions and accessories.
Coastal & High-Humidity Environments
- Rinse hardware occasionally to remove salt residue.
- Inspect metal components more frequently.
- Allow extra drying time for cushions and fabrics.
- Expect faster cosmetic aging — this is normal in coastal climates.
About covers: Covers are helpful for short-term protection, but they should never trap moisture. Always clean and dry first, and allow airflow whenever possible.
When to Store vs. Leave Installed
- It’s okay to leave swings installed year-round if properly maintained.
- Cushions should be stored during long periods of rain, snow, or freezing weather.
- If storing the swing itself, choose a dry, ventilated space and protect hardware.
